How to use the Unzip Files tool
- Open your ZIP archive. Drag and drop a .zip file into the box above, or click it to browse your device. The archive is read instantly, without uploading anything.
- Browse the contents. Every file inside is listed with its full path, uncompressed size and modification date. Use the filter box to quickly find a file in large archives.

About this tool
This free online unzip tool lets you open ZIP archives and extract their contents without installing WinZip, 7-Zip or any other software. It is handy when you receive a .zip attachment on a locked-down work computer, a tablet or a Chromebook, or when you only need one document out of a large archive and don't want to unpack the whole thing. Standard ZIP files created on Windows, macOS and Linux are supported, including archives with nested folders.
Everything happens locally: the archive is decompressed by JavaScript running in your browser, so your files are never uploaded, stored or scanned by a server. That makes it safe to open archives containing private documents, and it means even large ZIP files open quickly because there is no upload wait.
Frequently asked questions
Is my ZIP file uploaded to a server?
No. The archive is opened and decompressed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted over the network, so the contents stay completely private.
Can I open password-protected ZIP files?
No. Encrypted archives cannot be decrypted in the browser by this tool. If you drop a password-protected ZIP you will see an error message — you'll need a desktop program such as 7-Zip for those.
Why does "Extract all" download files one by one?
Browsers cannot write a folder structure straight to your disk, so each file is saved as a separate download. Your browser may ask once for permission to download multiple files — allow it and the rest will follow automatically.
Which archive formats are supported?
Standard .zip archives using Store or Deflate compression — the kind produced by Windows "Send to → Compressed folder", macOS "Compress", and most apps. RAR, 7z, TAR and GZ files are different formats and will not open here.
