About this tool
This free HEIC to PNG converter turns the photos your iPhone or iPad saves into PNG, the lossless format that every operating system, image editor and website understands. Apple has stored pictures as HEIC by default since iOS 11 to save space, but the format remains awkward outside Apple hardware — Windows wants a paid codec, and countless upload forms simply reject it. PNG is the safest possible landing place: no compression artifacts are added, so the file survives repeated editing and re-saving without degrading.
Conversion runs at the original pixel dimensions and drops every EXIF tag from the output, including the GPS coordinates iPhones embed by default. The rotation recorded by the phone is baked into the pixels first, so portrait photos do not end up sideways in editors that ignore metadata.

Why choose PNG instead of JPG?
PNG compresses losslessly, so nothing is thrown away and the file can be opened, edited and re-saved repeatedly without accumulating compression artifacts. That makes it the right choice before retouching a photo, or when a program or website specifically demands PNG. The trade-off is size: a PNG of a photograph is typically several times larger than the equivalent JPG. If you just need the photo to open everywhere, HEIC to JPG gives much smaller files.
Is the conversion really lossless?
The PNG stage is. Your photo is decoded straight from the HEIC to PNG without passing through JPEG at any point, so no extra compression generation is introduced. Bear in mind the HEIC itself was already saved with lossy compression by your camera — no converter can recover detail the phone discarded when the photo was taken.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
On Chrome, Firefox and Edge, yes — those browsers cannot decode HEIC at all. Each photo is sent to our server, converted, and returned immediately; it is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes, never stored or logged, and never seen by a person. Safari reads HEIC natively, so nothing is uploaded there. Full detail is in our privacy policy.
Is the GPS location removed?
Yes. EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, camera model, timestamp — is stripped during conversion, so a converted PNG will not reveal where the photo was taken. The orientation is applied to the pixels beforehand, so portrait photos stay upright.
Why is my PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?
That is expected. HEIC is a modern lossy format designed to make photos tiny, while PNG stores every pixel exactly. A 2 MB HEIC commonly becomes a 10–20 MB PNG. If size matters more than lossless editing, convert to JPG or WebP instead.
