About this tool
This free JPG to PNG converter turns compressed JPEG photos into PNG files, the lossless format preferred for editing, archiving and uploading to sites that require PNG. Because PNG stores every pixel exactly, you can open, edit and re-save the converted file as many times as you like without stacking up new compression artifacts the way repeated JPG saves do. Batch support means a folder full of photos converts in one drag and drop.
The conversion happens entirely in your browser using the HTML5 canvas β your pictures are never uploaded to any server, which makes the tool safe for private photos, ID scans and confidential design work. It is completely free, with no watermarks, registration or file count limits.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my PNG file bigger than the original JPG?
JPG uses strong lossy compression tuned for photos, while PNG compresses losslessly. For photographic images the PNG version is usually several times larger β that is normal and expected. The benefit is that no further quality is lost when you edit and re-save it.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. Detail already discarded by JPG compression cannot be recovered. Converting to PNG simply prevents any additional quality loss from that point on, which is why it is the right move before heavy editing.
Can I convert many JPGs at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like β each one appears in the list with its own download button, and Download all saves the entire batch. Your browser may ask permission to download multiple files.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The whole conversion runs locally in your browser, so your images never leave your device. Once the page has loaded it even works offline.
