About this tool
WebP is the compact format many websites now serve, but plenty of desktop programs, older photo editors, printing kiosks and upload forms still only accept JPG. This free WebP to JPG converter fixes that in one step: drop in the .webp files you saved from the web and download standard JPEGs that open everywhere. An adjustable quality slider lets you balance file size against image fidelity, and batch support converts a whole folder of images at once.
Unlike most online converters, this one never uploads your images β decoding and re-encoding happen locally in your browser with the HTML5 canvas, so it is fast, private and even works offline once the page has loaded. No watermarks, accounts or limits.
Frequently asked questions
Why do websites give me WebP files in the first place?
WebP compresses images 25β35% smaller than JPG at similar quality, so many sites serve it to save bandwidth. When you right-click and save such an image you get a .webp file, which some apps cannot open β converting it to JPG restores universal compatibility.
Will converting WebP to JPG lose quality?
Both WebP and JPG are usually lossy, so re-encoding causes a small additional loss. At 85β95% quality the difference is practically invisible. Choose 100% to minimize loss, or keep quality lower if a small file matters more.
My WebP has a transparent background β what happens to it?
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background color you pick (white by default). If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG instead using our WebP to PNG tool.
Can I convert animated WebP files?
Only the first frame of an animated WebP is converted, because JPG is a still-image format. For animations, a format like GIF or a video file is the better target.
