Where do the words come from?
The words are drawn from curated lists of common English nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs built into the page. They are everyday words rather than obscure dictionary entries, so they work well for games, teaching and creative prompts.
Can I get only nouns or only verbs?
Yes. Use the word-type buttons to restrict the generator to a single part of speech — nouns, verbs, adjectives or adverbs — or choose Any to mix them all together.
Why can't I generate more unique words than the list holds?
With No repeats switched on, each word can appear only once, so you cannot request more words than the list contains. Either lower the count or turn off No repeats to allow the same word to appear more than once.
Are the words good for passphrases?
The random selection is cryptographically secure, so a handful of unrelated words makes a memorable passphrase. For real account security, combine several words and add your own numbers or symbols rather than relying on the words alone.
