About this tool

This free pressure converter is built for tyre pressures given in PSI, bar or kPa, weather readings in millibar and atmospheres, scuba and industrial gauges, and vacuum or blood-pressure figures measured in torr (millimeters of mercury). The pascal is the SI base unit, and every other unit is defined against it: 1 bar is exactly 100,000 Pa, 1 atmosphere is 101,325 Pa, and 1 psi is about 6,894.76 Pa.

Frequently asked questions

How many PSI are in one bar?

One bar equals about 14.5038 psi. So a tyre inflated to 2.2 bar is roughly 31.9 psi. To convert bar to psi, multiply by 14.5038; to go the other way, divide.

What is one atmosphere of pressure?

One standard atmosphere (atm) is defined as 101,325 pascals. That equals 1.01325 bar, about 14.696 psi, or exactly 760 torr — roughly the average air pressure at sea level.

What is torr, and how does it relate to mmHg?

One torr is 1/760 of an atmosphere, about 133.322 pascals, and is virtually identical to one millimeter of mercury (mmHg). It is common in vacuum science and in blood-pressure readings.

What pressure should my car tyres be?

Most passenger cars call for around 30–35 psi (about 2.1–2.4 bar or 210–240 kPa), but always follow the figure on the sticker inside the driver's door or in the owner's manual.
