About this tool

This free video info viewer tells you the key technical properties of any video file without installing media software. It is handy for checking whether a clip meets an upload requirement (for example 1920×1080 at 16:9 for YouTube, or 9:16 vertical for TikTok, Reels and Shorts), verifying the length and size of a screen recording before emailing it, or comparing bitrates between two exports of the same footage. The bitrate shown is the total average bitrate — the file size divided by its duration — which includes the video stream, any audio and the container overhead.

Everything happens locally: your browser opens the file with its built-in media engine and reads the metadata on your own device. The video is never uploaded, stored or logged, so it is safe to inspect private footage, work recordings or unreleased material. There are no limits, sign-ups or watermarks, and even multi-gigabyte files open quickly because only the metadata needs to be decoded.

Frequently asked questions

How is the estimated bitrate calculated?

It is the file size in bits divided by the duration in seconds (size × 8 ÷ duration). That gives the total average bitrate of the whole file, including audio and container overhead, so it will be slightly higher than the video stream's own bitrate. Variable-bitrate videos are averaged over their full length.

Which video formats are supported?

Any format your browser can decode — typically MP4 (H.264/H.265 where licensed), WebM (VP8, VP9, AV1) and Ogg. Containers like MKV, AVI or WMV may not decode in every browser; in that case the tool still shows the file name, size, type and modified date, but duration and resolution stay unavailable.

Why does the duration or resolution show as unknown?

Either the browser lacks a codec for that file, or the file has no duration header — common for WebM clips produced by screen and webcam recorders. For the missing-header case this tool automatically seeks to the end of the clip to recover the real duration, which takes a moment on long recordings.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The file is opened through a local object URL and analyzed entirely by your browser's media engine. It never leaves your device, and closing the page removes every trace of it.
