How to scan a QR code online

  2. Point or drop. For the camera, click Start camera, allow access and aim at the code. For an image, drag a picture into the box or click to browse.
  3. Read the result. The decoded text appears instantly. Copy it, or if it is a web address, open the link in a new tab.

Frequently asked questions

Why will my camera not turn on?

Camera scanning needs a secure (https) page and your permission. If you denied access, reset the camera permission for this site in your browser settings, then reload. On some devices another app may be holding the camera — close it and try again, or use the "Upload image" tab instead.

Are the camera feed and images uploaded anywhere?

No. The video frames and any image you upload are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent to a server, so the tool is safe for private and confidential codes.

What kinds of QR codes can it read?

It reads standard QR codes of any version, including URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi logins, email, SMS, phone numbers and vCard contacts. It does not read other barcode formats such as UPC, EAN or Data Matrix.

The image scan says no code was found. What can I do?

Make sure the QR code is fully inside the picture, in focus and not too small. Very low-contrast, glare-covered or heavily rotated codes can fail. Try a sharper, straighter, well-lit image, or crop the photo closer to the code and upload it again.
