How to build a UTM tracking link
- Paste your destination URL. Enter the full web address of the page you want people to land on, including
https://. - Add your campaign tags. Fill in the source, medium and campaign name (these three are required), plus optional term and content values for finer tracking.
- Copy your link. Press Build URL, then copy the finished link and use it in your ad, email, social post or QR code.
About this tool
UTM parameters are small tags added to the end of a URL — like ?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email — that tell Google Analytics and GA4 exactly where a visitor came from. Instead of lumping everything under "direct" or "referral", you can see which newsletter, ad or social post actually drove traffic and conversions. This builder assembles the five standard UTM fields (source, medium, campaign, term and content) plus the GA4 utm_id, correctly URL-encoding spaces and special characters so your links never break.
The tool preserves any query string already on your URL and removes duplicate UTM tags so you can safely re-tag a link. Everything happens locally in your browser — no URLs are uploaded or logged — so it is safe for unreleased campaigns and private landing pages. Keep your values lowercase and consistent (for example always email, never sometimes Email) so your analytics reports stay clean.
Frequently asked questions
Which UTM parameters are required?
Google Analytics needs at least utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to attribute traffic properly. utm_term, utm_content and utm_id are optional and used for extra detail.
Should UTM values be uppercase or lowercase?
Analytics treats Email and email as two separate sources, which splits your reports. Pick one style — lowercase is the common convention — and use it everywhere for clean, mergeable data.
Can I use spaces in campaign names?
Yes. Type them normally and the builder encodes spaces as %20 so the link stays valid. Many marketers use underscores or plus signs instead (for example spring_sale) to keep links readable.
Does this work with GA4 and other analytics tools?
Yes. UTM parameters are a universal standard read by GA4, Universal Analytics, Matomo, Adobe Analytics, HubSpot and most other platforms. The optional utm_id is specifically supported by GA4 for campaign matching.
