Frequently asked questions

Does the converter handle daylight saving time?

Yes. Offsets are looked up in the IANA time zone database that ships with your browser, for the exact date and time you enter. That is why converting a summer date and a winter date between the same two cities can give different hour differences.

What does the UTC offset mean?

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global reference time. An offset like UTC+5:30 means local clocks are 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC. The converter shows the offset of each zone at the chosen moment, so you can see exactly how the conversion was made.

Why does the result say “next day” or “previous day”?

When the hour difference pushes the converted time past midnight, the calendar date changes. For example, 9:00 PM Monday in Los Angeles is already 2:00 PM Tuesday in Sydney. The tool flags this so you never book a meeting on the wrong day.

What happens with times that don’t exist because of DST?

When clocks “spring forward”, one hour is skipped (for example 2:30 AM may never occur that night). If you enter such a time, the converter maps it to the nearest valid instant, which is the behaviour used by most calendar apps.
