Frequently asked questions

What does the blur strength number mean?

It is the blur radius in pixels, matching the CSS blur() filter. A radius of 2–4 px gives a subtle soft-focus look, 8–15 px works well for backgrounds, and 25–40 px makes text and faces unrecognizable.

Can I blur only part of the image?

This tool blurs the whole picture, which is ideal for backgrounds. To hide just one region, try our Pixelate Image tool, or crop the area first with the Crop Image tool, blur it, and paste it back in an editor.

Is a blurred image safe for hiding sensitive text?

Light blurs can sometimes be partially reversed, so use a strong setting (20 px or more) for sensitive content, and check that the text is truly unreadable in the preview before sharing. Pixelation with large blocks is another good option.

Does blurring reduce the image resolution?

No. The output keeps exactly the same width and height as your original — only the pixel detail is smoothed. File size often drops, because blurred areas compress very well in JPG and WebP.
