Webcam Recorder
Record video from your webcam with microphone audio and download it instantly — free, with no install and no account. Your video is captured and saved entirely in your browser; nothing is ever uploaded.
Your browser will ask for camera and microphone permission. The mirror option only affects the preview — the saved video is never flipped. Recordings are saved as WebM or MP4 depending on your browser.
How to use the Webcam Recorder
- Start your camera. Click Start camera and allow camera and microphone access when your browser asks. Once the live preview appears you can switch to a specific camera or change the preferred resolution.
- Record yourself. Click Start recording when you are ready. The timer shows the recording length, and you can pause and resume as often as you like.
- Stop and save. Press Stop recording, review the playback right on the page and download the video file to your device.
About this tool
This free online webcam recorder turns your browser into a simple video camera — no software to install, no account to create and no watermark on the result. Use it to record video messages, practice job interviews or presentations, create quick vlogs and course intros, capture a reaction clip, or simply test that your webcam and microphone work correctly. If you need to capture your screen instead of your camera, use the Screen Recorder.
Recording is completely private: the camera stream is captured and encoded on your own device using your browser's built-in MediaRecorder, and the finished video exists only in your browser until you download it. Nothing is streamed or uploaded to any server. Depending on the browser, the file is saved as WebM (most Chrome, Edge and Firefox versions) or MP4 (Safari and newer Chromium builds), and the download name matches the real format.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the saved video look flipped compared to the preview?
The preview is mirrored by default, like a selfie camera, because that feels natural when you watch yourself. The recorded file is intentionally not mirrored — that is how other people (and any text you hold up) should appear. Untick Mirror preview to see exactly what will be recorded.
What format is the video saved in?
The recorder automatically picks the best format your browser supports: MP4 where available (for example Safari), otherwise WebM with the VP9 or VP8 codec. The file extension of the download always matches the actual format.
Can I choose which camera and microphone are used?
Yes for the camera — after you grant permission, the camera dropdown lists every connected webcam by name, and you can switch between them between takes. The microphone uses your system default; change it in your operating system or browser sound settings if needed.
Is my webcam video uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser and the recording never leaves your device unless you share the downloaded file yourself. There is no artificial length limit either — long recordings are only bounded by your device's free memory.
